Dukes defeat Hinsdale Central for 5th Consecutive Win

The Dukes are enjoying Playoff hockey as much as letting TJ Oshie go to work in a shootout - again and again.  On Valentines Day, York hosted the red and white clad Hinsdale Central Red Devils for the Dukes 5th playoff game.  Heading into the contest, the Dukes were 4-0 in the round robin Illinois West League playoffs and HC was 3-1.

After the Red Devils scored on a short handed goal in the second period to take a 1-0 lead, York asserted its will, physically and offensively.  Center Jack Sullivan continued his hot streak by first scoring on a deflection off a Red Devil defenseman and then Sully assisted on winger Andrew Van Dyke's goal 2 minutes later when the Dukes seized the lead.

Given the playoff implications, Hinsdale tried to get physical with the Dukes which effort backfired.  Logan Feley, Joseph "Crusher" Levin and Jeremy Fuller sent several Red Devils to the ice on hard, textbook checks that drew the fans and Duke team mates appreciative cheers.

In the final period, Mitch Kurzweil set up Matt Sabatini for a wrister and a 3-1 Duke advantage.  Hinsdale then made some big offensive pushes, but the York defensive pairings of Ben Bresson and Luke Skawski and also Brandon Fuchsen and Will Borrows stepped up and met the challenge.  Duke goalie Jack Buckley also improved his already impressive 94% save percentage by only allowing one goal on 36 shots.

The final goal was scored when Sully split two Hinsdale defenders and backhanded a perfect shot over the goalie's glove for the final dagger, Dukes 4 Red Devils 1.
