Dukes Advance to Elite Eight Round of State Play-offs

BENSENVILLE—York Hockey Club’s junior varsity squad beat Metro West rival, Nequa Valley High School, on Friday, March 7th 4-1 victory advanced the Dukes into the tournament’s field of elite eight teams.

The York squad drew first blood mid-way through the opening period when freshman Jack Redick carried the puck below the goal line and cycled the puck to sophomore Ryan Pedote.

Then Pedote fed junior Michael Bogdanowicz with a pass in front of the Nequa Valley net. Bagdanowicz deposited the puck into the back of the net to capture the lead.

Early in the second period sophomore Tom Sieracki launched a slap shot from the point. Fellow sophomore Trevor Corsello put the puck back on net. York finally lit the lamp when Mark Dorsey, sophomore, pounded home the rebound. The Nequa Valley team did, however, make things interesting when the team scored just over a minute later.

York regained control in the third period when sophomore Zack Johnson hit team captain Joey Hayes with a pass deep in the offensive zone. The captain carried the puck behind the net and scored on a wrap around to regain the two goal advantage.

York sealed the victory when Pedote passed the puck to freshman Elliott Fafinski in the slot. Fafinski buried the puck in the Nequa Valley goal with an impressive one timer for the final tally of the game.

Junior Liam McFarlane played strong in goal for the Dukes to earn the victory. With the victory, York advanced to play Stevenson High School on Thursday, March 13th for the right to move on to the Final Four. Details about that game can be found by visiting
