York Hockey’s varsity squad took the show on the road to the Arctic Ice Arena to easily best Marist High School by a score of 7-2 on Sunday, September 28 in pre-season play.

York came to play, quickly scoring two goals in the first period, the first by Franki Carbonetti, assisted by Pedote. The second goal was by Mitchell Kurzweil with an assist by Nick Lee.

A tricky bounce slipped past York’s Parker Stasica for Marist’s first goal with a just a minute left in the first.

In the second period, Marist implemented a cherry picker strategy in the neutral zone during player changes. Lee took out the threat the first go around, but the same play evened the score at 2-2.

It was all York after that. Defenseman Tom Sieracki delivered a zinger from the blue line through major traffic to regain the lead at 3-2.  York scored twice more in the second with Elliott Fafinski snapping in a rebound from Carbonetti's effort, and Kurzweil finished Mark Dorsey's handiwork. With one minute left in the second, Kurzweil pulled a penalty from Marist setting up a key 4 on 3 for York to take into the third period.

Sieracki quickly made it 6-2 on the power play, with an assist from Lee.  A few minutes later, after a lot of quick maneuvers, Grey Miller pushed York’s tally to lucky number seven.

York saw some key backchecking efforts by Scott Levin and Matt Sabatini, and solid defense from Brandon Fuchsen. Stasica was in net the entire game and made some impressive saves on short and long-range shots.

York kicks of league play against Hinsdale South on Friday, October 3 at 8:40 p.m., preceded by the York JV contest at 7:05 p.m. at Addison Ice.
