USA Hockey Neck Guard Requirement
Effective August 1st, all participants of York Hockey events, games and practices must wear a neck guard while on the ice. This new requirement aligns with USA Hockey regulations aimed at improving player safety.
A neck laceration protector that is “designed for that purpose” is a piece of equipment that is specifically designed for protecting the neck area from cuts and abrasions while playing hockey.
If a player’s neck laceration protector comes off during play, the play shall be allowed to continue until the next stoppage. At which point the player must replace the equipment or be substituted for by another player. This interpretation is treated the same as mouthpieces.
With regard to enforcement, if a player enters the game without a neck laceration protector they shall be ruled off the ice and a team warning shall be issued to that team, and any further violation by that team shall result in a misconduct penalty being issued to the offending player.
USAH SafeSport Requirement
USA Hockey requires all players 17 years of age or older on or before December 31, 2024 and who play on a team in a classification that allows minor aged players, to complete SafeSport Training before being added to a team and prior to participation with the team (on-ice or off-ice).
If applicable, SafeSport training must be completed by Monday, August 19th. According to USA Hockey Regulations, players born in 2006 and 2007 cannot be officially rostered without completing SafeSport Training.
The program takes about 90 minutes to complete online and is free. You must have a USAH Registration Confirmation Number to register to take the training, which can be accessed via the USA Hockey Website.
